You know, there's a lot of dialect still running through people, and it's precious. I mean, I remember the elders in the village using some of those words, and they're still used to this day in rural parts of England and Wales and Scotland. HARVEY: One of the poems I wrote early on had been leaning into some of the words I'd remembered from being a child. And then how did you - as they say in the most corny way, how did you make it your own? POWERS: I wonder how you first made the decision to use the Dorset dialect. HARVEY: (Singing) Hark the greening of the earth. It's a mixture of seriousness and humor and Dorset dialect, which adds another layer to the meaning of everything. It's playful in its imagination, I would say. It's basically a year in the life of a 9-year-old in a rural part of the west of England, and it documents her year, month by month, paying particular attention to what's happening in the natural world around her. HARVEY: The book "Orlam" is my second collection of poetry. KELLY: NPR's Ann Powers sat down with Harvey to hear more about the album, which is out now.ĪNN POWERS, BYLINE: Can you explain the story and the world of "Orlam" and the new album for those who might not have yet had the pleasure of entering them? I only set out to write a collection of poetry, but this work kind of morphed into drawings and then into music as well. HARVEY: (Singing) Drush repeats 'enself, over underwhelem. (SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "I INSIDE THE OLD YEAR DYING") Last year, she published a narrative poem called "Orlam," a vivid work of magical realism, which has now evolved into a new album called "I Inside The Old Year Dying." KELLY: Her latest project bleeds together those elements intricately. But as I've got older, it's become more and more natural for me that they all just sort of bleed together. HARVEY: I think when I was younger, I used to try and keep them separate, in their separate categories. KELLY: Along with the songs, she has always written poetry and created visual art, too. She first broke out in the early '90s with hits like "Rid Of Me" and "Dress." KELLY: Harvey is best known as a singer-songwriter. And if I'm a bit stuck on a poem and I can't work out where it's going, I'll often spend time drawing it. P J HARVEY: In the early stages of writing a song, I very often see it in images and colors. It's determined to get this working, though, and I'll share some of Swen Vincke's thoughts about that soon too.For PJ Harvey, words, music and images all come from the same creative wellspring. It's also coming to Xbox, but there's a hold-up due to the Series S machine struggling with split-screen co-op, which Larian wants all console versions to have. But it takes a lot of bulk of dialogue to be there to be able to do that."īaldur's Gate 3 is due for release on PC on 3rd August, and then on PlayStation 5 - a version I've also played (and I'll tell you about as soon as I can type it) - on 6th September. "It's very hard to understand that," he added, "but when you see it, you feel it, because it does feel - and you'll find that as you play through - like a screenplay that is really specifically for you. "Those are not there - you'll have something else. "If you don't have Jaheira in your party: forget all the Jaheira scenes," he said. Vincke is referring to a section of the game he played in the city of Baldur's Gate, which constitutes the third and final act of the game, where he was the druid Jaheira, and the world reacted to her in a unique way. "That's why I insisted on doing my playthrough the way I did, so you get an idea of actually what it means." It won't, in other words, feel like watching The Lord of the Rings film trilogy three times. The Baldur's Gate 3 launch trailer - it really is that close! And it's when you add all of these don't-see permutations together you get the big number. For every decision you make, and every short cinematic conversation you see linked to it, dozens more are recorded for the same moment that you won't see. The overwhelming bulk of that number comes from permutations in the game. And as I understand it, players will not see anything like that on one playthrough. I got the chance to talk to Larian boss Swen Vincke last week and I raised this with him. This, however, raised concerns over how much cinematic dialogue people would be watching while playing the game, and whether it would interrupt the flow. It has 174 hours of cinematics, making it more than twice the length of every season of Game of Thrones combined." Wrote Larian in a community update: "Baldur's Gate 3 has more cinematic dialogue than three times all three Lord of the Rings novels combined. Baldur's Gate 3 made headlines recently with the eye-catching claim that it has more than 170 hours of cinematics in the game. For them, food was no longer just sustenance but an experience to be savored. The decade's natural food outlook laid the groundwork for today's infatuation with local, artisanal, and sustainable products. This attitude shift emphasized sensuous pleasure and ecological responsibility that went beyond food's healthfulness or efficiency. On the other hand, following the launch of Alice Waters' "Chez Panisse," a "delicious revolution" emerged, inspiring the nationwide rediscovery of natural flavors and local foods while planting seeds for the modern farm-to-table movement.
